The farmer and I just returned from a conference in Madison, WI. It was put on by the Professional Dairy Producers of Wisconsin (PDPW). The conference was energizing in more ways than one. First off, it was great to spend a few days away from the farm. Secondly, it was great to be surrounded by people who do the same things we do everyday and share our same passion and concerns. I also learned a ton. There were keynote speakers, break-out sessions, and lots of networking time.
My mind is whirling with ideas and information. We learned about social media, consumer concerns, employee management, business management, and so much more. I learned far too much to discuss everything in this post. I’m sure there will be posts in the near future to talk about some of those things.
Another great thing about going to this conference was seeing all the younger people who were there. A few weeks ago I talked about the lack of young people at the annual meeting of our creamery. This conference was just the opposite. It was a great mix of ages and gender. I was happy to see so many young people excited to be involved in the dairy industry.
I am happy and thankful to be part of the dairy industry and to be surrounded by such great people. I’m already looking forward to learning more in Madison next year!
